A-CLASSES - 3 DAYS

Below are the A-classes for Miniature in Tune 2026. These are 3-day classes held from Monday to Wednesday.
The B-classes, which are 2-day classes taking place on Thursday and Friday, can be found here.

A1

fine skein willow basketry

Esmé Hofman

Exquisite willow skeinwork is applied in the little baskets found in antique dollhouses. The long history of this technique becomes obvious when we view the dollshouses from the 18th century found at, for instance, Het Haags Gemeentemuseum or Het Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. Almost all baskets found there are made from fine willow skeins. In the class, we will focus on a variation of round baskets. Participants will learn the process of making willow skeins and weave a variation of round baskets.

Everyone works at their own pace, which means the number of baskets participants can make will vary. In both the 2-day and 3-day classes, we start with a round coaster to get acquainted with the various steps of weaving with willow skeins. After this, participants in the 3-day workshop can choose between a tall laundry basket with a lid, a low round basket, and/or a flower-picking basket.

I will bring both prepared and unshaven material. We work with natural colours. I will bring all tools and wooden moulds. Participants can use these during the class.

Materials fee:  €15,- / €25,-

A2

silver bowl with lid on stand

Jens Torp

Jens Torp Silver Lidded Bowl 12th scale

We are creating a beautiful silver bowl on a stand with a lid. Students will learn how to shape a dome for both the bowl and lid from a flat sheet of silver. The students will be sawing, filing, and soldering.

Students will also learn how to use a ‘tap and die’ set to make screws and threads. Finally, the piece will be prepared for polishing using fine sandpaper and rubber wheels, followed by the finishing polish.

Materials fee:  €60,-

A3

Crazy for chocolate

Manuela P. Michieli

In these 3 days, the focus will be mainly on modelling and texturing polymer clay to create miniature chocolate items.
For completeness, information will be given on how to safely handle, store and cure the clay.

In all my workshops each object is carefully chosen to explain one or more techniques.

Students will work on: Modelling basics, different ways to add textures, various uses of liquid polymer clay – some cake design techniques adapted to miniatures, multiple baking, working with cured polymer clay, cane techniques, adding colour shades, and giving scrap clay a new life.

The topics explored in the workshop are suitable for both beginners and those who wish to deepen their knowledge about using polymer clay to create miniature food.

All the accessories shown in the picture are included.

To complete the scene, the table will be part of the workshop, and students will be free to assemble it or to keep it not assembled to save space, just in case they get there by plane.

Materials fee:  €20,-

MICROMOSAIC  FROM GLASS FILATI

ela Kiefhaber

Discover the art of micromosaic, where thousands of tiny threads of glass – called filati – are transformed into luminous miniature designs. This 3-day intensive workshop introduces students to the history, materials and specialised techniques of micromosaic with a rare opportunity to make your own glass filati from scratch.

A Brief History of Micromosaic:
Micromosaic originated in the late 18th century in Rome, when artisans used slender rods of colored glass to create exquisite miniature images of flowers, animals and famous landmarks.

These tiny works were prized souvenirs of the Grand Tour and often set into jewellery, furniture, and decorative panels. Today, micromosaics are treasured as both historic and contemporary art forms, admired for their patience, skill and detail.

This course takes you through the full micromosaic process, from raw glass to finished miniature masterpiece.
Instructions include:
-Historic Inspiration: Study of antique Micromosaics to connect traditional methods with your own creation.
-Design translation: Converting imagery into micromosaic form with attention to proportion, shading and detail.
-Glass Filati Making: Students will learn the traditional process of melting colored glass, forming the glass and pulling filati into delicate threads used for the mosaics.
-Cutting & Shaping: How to handle filati and prepare tesserae of different thicknesses for precise placement.
-Setting & Adhesives: Correct techniques for placing the tesserae, mixing the stucco.
-Finishing: Wax grouting and polishing the mosaic for jewellery, miniature works, or display pieces.

Course Format: The class combines lectures, demonstrations, and an extensive guided studio practice, allowing the students to experience the full circle of micromosaic creation. By the end, each participant will not only complete their micromosaic piece, but will also have gained the rare skill of producing their own filati – opening the door to independent practice and advanced exploration.

Whether you’re new to mosaics or an experienced miniaturist eager to deepen your knowledge, this workshop provides an immersive and supportive environment to explore one of the most intricate art forms in glasswork.

Japanese room with garden in 1:24 scale

erik Goddard

We will build a small traditional Japanese room in 1:24 scale. You could use it as a room of a larger house, a tea room, a quiet retreat, or just as a vignette. The room will have a garden with a lantern and a fence, and will have lighting. The project will feature elements of Japanese structures: shoji screen walls, tatami mats on the floor, and a garden. Dimensions: about 20cm wide, 12cm high, and 15cm deep (final dimensions may vary slightly).

A removable cedar or spruce frame with glass (shown) is available for an additional €20.

Materials fee:  €30 (without frame)
€50 (including frame)

A6

sculpt a boy or girl from polymer clay

Timea P. Vajonne

In this 3-day class, we will sculpt a 1:12 scale little boy or a girl from scratch (your choice).

Students will be learning to make the armature from wire, sculpting the face, torso, hands/legs and shoes using polymer clay.

We will paint him/her using heat-set paint, adding lifelike colouring and shading to his/her face, torso and hands.
Then we will get him/her ready to be dressed using yarn to make his/her body.

The last day will dress him/her up, using various fabrics and fabric glue, no sewing involved.
And finally, we will create his/her hair, using mohair.

This workshop welcomes newcomers to polymer clay and those who want to develop their skills.
